COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS
Version 4
COMSOL Multiphysics version 4.0 brings an
unprecedented level of clarity to
your simulations by combining an
organized model overview and a
streamlined model- building process. The
new user interface reduces
clutter and redundant tasks,resulting in
increased productivity. Highlights
include:
- The Model Builder- a graphical programming interface for
simulation |
- Geometric parameter sweeps with full associativity |
- Cluster computing using the floating network license |
The new LiveLink™ family of products
opens up a new dimension in your simulations by integrating
COMSOL Multiphysics directly with leading CAD programs
and MATLAB®. See
Release Notes for details. |

The Maple Grid Computing Toolbox |
The Maple Grid Computing Toolbox
enables you to run Maple computations |
in parallel, taking advantage of
all your hardware resources, cutting down |
on processing time, and enabling
applications that were not possible before |
With the Maple Grid Computing Toolbox,
you can distribute computations |
across the nodes of a network of
workstations, a supercomputer or, the |
CPUs of a multiprocessor computer. This
allows you to handle problems that |
are not tractable on a single machine
because of memory limitations or |
because it would simply take too long.

MapleSim Used to Rapidly Develop a High
Fidelity Multi-Domain Model of a Robotic Space Rover |
Unmanned
planetary exploration is a focus for many space research
agencies worldwide today. To do this successfully, advanced
autonomous robotic rovers are needed. Dr. Amir Khajepour,
Canada Research Chair in Mechatronic Vehicle Systems and
Professor of Engineering in the Mechanical and Mechatronics
Engineering department at the University of Waterloo (UW), is
working with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Maplesoft, and
the Government of Canada, to develop a full solution for the
power management system of autonomous rovers. Dr. Khajepour is
a leading figure in mechatronics and robotics and he has
chosen MapleSim, an advanced physical modeling tool from
Maplesoft, as a key tool in his project.

The Art of Modeling Seashell Morphology |
Mathematica related to scientific and
engineering applications, with many example coming from
biological phenomena. Consider a
delicately sculpted seashell. We admire its beauty and
structural features but we often don't think for a second that
mathematics has anything to do with the way it is crafted.
Modeling the varied shapes of
seashells is an appealing application of several mathematical
concepts that are introduced in multi-variable calculus. And
of despite the staggering variety of shell shapes found in
nature, the growth of almost all seashells can be describes in
terms of three exponential functions and a closed curve that
describes the shape of the shell's aperture or opening..
