PROGRAMME

Multiphysics Simulation for Nanotechnology

9.00am – 12.00pm

Nanotechnology is a rapidly expanding field and it brings about more efficient products and devices. Multiphysics simulation becomes essential in order to understand and design nanomaterials and nanodevices to perform like they do in the real world since the realm is so small that experiments are difficult to conduct.

In this session, we will give you an insight on the development of modelling and simulation approaches in nanoscience and how nanotechnology simulation can be easily applied using COMSOL Multiphysics.

Topics that will be covered include:

  1. Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics and it’s applications in nanotechnology
  2. Application areas that will be discussed:
  • Nanoelectronics
  • Nanomechanics
  • Nanophotonics
  • Nanomedicine
  1. Learn about the COMSOL modules that can be used for the respective application areas
  2. Have a better understanding of modelling nanomaterials and nanodevices through simulation examples
  3. Hands-on exercises on Nanophotonics

Electromagnetics Modelling

2.00pm – 5.00pm

This session provides you an understanding of how to simulate low & high frequency electromagnetic devices using COMSOL Multiphysics. We will provide a guide for selecting the appropriate modules and go through some meshing and modelling techniques involved in electromagnetics simulation. You will learn how to simulate devices such as, coils, magnets, transformers, waveguides, fiber optics, photonic crystal, cavities, and metamaterials.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • General introduction to the modules for electromagnetics modelling
  • Applications scopes of the modules
  • Key features of each module
  • Special boundary conditions
  • Meshing Techniques
  • Hands-on exercises

Note:

  • You will be required to bring your own laptop. Note that COMSOL version 5.3 requires a 64-bit Operating System to run. Please visit System Requirements to see the minimum configuration COMSOL requires for installation.
  • Participants will be provided with a FREE 2-week COMSOL product evaluation license after they have attended this event.
